Dyanamic Downloads a Detailed Guide

What is Dynamic Mode?

Dynamic Mode is an advanced feature of the Downloads tab in Mimeeq that allows files to be automatically displayed based on the specific configuration a user has selected. Unlike Static Mode (where you manually upload specific files that remain constant), Dynamic Mode intelligently shows different files depending on the options chosen in the configurator.

How Dynamic Mode Works

When you select Dynamic Mode for a Downloads tab, you're creating a system that:

  1. Observes which options users select in the configurator
  2. Follows a pattern you define to locate the appropriate files
  3. Displays only the files relevant to the current configuration

Setting Up Dynamic Mode

Step 1: Choose Dynamic Mode

When adding a file to your Downloads tab, select "Dynamic" instead of "Static".

Step 2: Define the Pattern

The pattern is the key component that determines which files are shown. It works by:

  • Referencing option blocks in your configurator
  • Creating a dynamic file path based on selected options
  • Allowing file names to change based on what the user has configured

For example, if you have a chair configurator with different leg styles and materials, you might create a pattern like:

{legStyle}_{material}_specs.pdf

This pattern would look for different PDF files depending on which leg style and material the user selects.

Step 3: Select the Directory

Specify the base directory where your dynamic files are stored. Mimeeq will look in this directory and follow the pattern you defined to find the appropriate files.

Step 4: Customize File Names (Optional)

You can override the displayed file name to make it more user-friendly. For instance, instead of showing "oak_legs_specs.pdf", you could display "Chair Specifications".

Real-World Use Cases

1. CAD Models for Different Configurations

One of the most powerful applications of Dynamic Mode is providing CAD models that match exactly what the user has configured:

  • When a user selects a specific table size, finish, and base type, they can download the precise CAD model matching their selections
  • Only the relevant CAD model is shown, reducing confusion
  • This ensures customers always get the correct technical files for their specific configuration

2. Configuration-Specific Specifications

Different product configurations often have different specifications:

  • A larger sofa might have different weight capacity than a smaller one
  • A product with a metal frame might have different care instructions than one with a wooden frame
  • Dynamic Mode ensures users only see the specifications relevant to their configuration

3. Secure Access to Technical Files

For business reasons, you might want to restrict access to certain technical files:

  • By enabling the "Available for authenticated users only" option, you can ensure that only logged-in users (such as dealers or partners) can access certain files
  • This is particularly useful for protecting proprietary CAD models, detailed specifications, or trade pricing information

Setting Up Your File Structure

For Dynamic Mode to work effectively, you need to organize your files in a way that matches your pattern structure:

  1. Create a logical folder hierarchy that mirrors your product options
  2. Name files consistently using a convention that matches your pattern
  3. Upload all potential files to the appropriate directory

Best Practices for Dynamic Mode

  • Test thoroughly: Create test configurations to ensure the correct files appear for different option combinations
  • Use descriptive file names: Even though you can override displayed names, keeping your actual files well-named helps with maintenance
  • Document your patterns: Keep track of what patterns you've created to make future updates easier
  • Consider fallbacks: Ensure that every possible configuration has an appropriate file, or create generic fallbacks

Conclusion

Dynamic Mode for Downloads is a powerful feature that enhances the customer experience by showing only the most relevant files based on their product configuration. When set up correctly, it streamlines the download process and ensures customers always receive the correct technical information for their specific product configuration.
