Different Product Types and How they Effect Subscription Limits
Overview
Mimeeq offers different types of configurators to suit various business needs. Understanding how these product types work and how they count toward your subscription limits will help you plan your account effectively and avoid unnecessary limit issues.
Product Types in Mimeeq
Standard Configurators
What are they? Standard configurators are standalone product configurators that can be embedded on your website or shared directly with sub-customers. These are your traditional, individual product configurators.
Note: Sharing products with sub-customers requires a special Mimeeq sharing license. Contact your account manager if you need this capability.
Key characteristics:
- Can be embedded independently on any web page
- Can be shared directly with sub-customers through the sharing system
- Work as complete, self-contained configurators
- May also be used as building blocks within modular configurators
Common examples:
- A chair configurator embedded on your product page
- A lamp configurator shared with dealers
- An individual desk configurator that customers can access directly
Modular Configurators
What are they? Modular configurators allow customers to build complex products by combining multiple elements or modules together. There are two types of modular approaches:
Full Modular: Customers manually select and arrange individual components to create their final configuration.
Hybrid Modular: The system combines elements based on pre-defined rules and appears more like a standard configurator to the user, but is built from modular components behind the scenes.
Key characteristics:
- Enable complex product building from individual elements
- Provide flexibility for customizable systems
- Use component products as building blocks
- Create sophisticated, multi-part configurations
Common examples:
- A modular shelving system where customers select shelves, panels, and connectors
- A kitchen configurator with cabinets, worktops, and appliances
- A modular furniture set with mix-and-match pieces
Component Products
What are they? Component products are the building blocks used exclusively within modular and hybrid configurators. They function only as parts of a larger system and are not embedded or shared independently.
Key characteristics:
- Only used within modular configurator systems
- Not embedded standalone on websites
- Not shared directly with sub-customers
- Lighter on your subscription limits
Common examples:
- Individual shelves within a modular shelving configurator
- Lamp bulb options as part of a lamp configurator
- Chair seat variations within a modular chair system
- Cabinet door options in a kitchen configurator
How Products Count Toward Your Subscription Limits
Understanding how different product types impact your subscription limits is essential for effective account management.
Separate Counting Categories
Mimeeq counts products in three separate categories:
- Standard Products: Standalone configurators and those that can be embedded
- Modular Products: Full modular and hybrid modular configurators (counted as one product per modular system)
- Component Products: Individual building blocks within modular systems
Important: These categories are counted separately, so limits in one category don't affect the others.
Active vs. Inactive Products
Only active products count toward your subscription limits.
- Active products: Count toward your subscription limit
- Inactive products: Do not count toward your limit
This means you can keep inactive products in your account without impacting your available product slots. You can reactivate them at any time if you have available capacity.
Decision Guide: Choosing the Right Product Type
When creating a product in Mimeeq, ask yourself this key question:
"Will this product be embedded on a website or shared directly with sub-customers?"
If YES → Create as Standard
- The product needs embedding capability
- It should be accessible independently
- Sub-customers may need direct access
If NO → Create as Component
- It's only a building block for a modular system
- It won't be embedded standalone
- It won't be shared independently with sub-customers
Special Considerations
Standard products CAN be used in modular configurators. Think of "Standard" as anything that needs the capability to be embedded or shared, even if it's also used within a modular system.
Example scenario: You're creating a table and chairs set using a hybrid modular approach. The chair also needs its own standalone configurator on your website.
- Chair: Set as Standard (because it needs independent embedding)
- Table legs: Set as Component (only used within the modular system)
- Table top: Set as Component (only used within the modular system)
Managing Your Subscription Limits
Best Practices
- Default to Component for modular projects: Unless there's a clear need for embedding, mark modular building blocks as Components
- Document your decisions: Keep notes on why products were classified as Standard vs. Component
- Regular audits: Periodically review your products to ensure proper classification
- Deactivate unused products: Move products you're not actively using to inactive status to free up limit capacity
When to Reconsider Classification
If you find yourself hitting subscription limits, review your products for:
- Standard products that are only used in modular builds and never embedded independently
- Products that were initially planned for embedding but never actually implemented
- Building blocks incorrectly classified as Standard
Checking Your Current Usage
Monitor your subscription limits in the Mimeeq admin panel:
- Navigate to Settings → Account Information
- View your current usage across all three product categories
- See how many slots remain available in each category
Common Questions
Q: Can I convert a Component to Standard later if needed?
A: Yes, you can change product classifications as your needs evolve. However, this will adjust your subscription limit usage.
Q: What happens if I exceed my subscription limits?
A: You won't be able to activate additional products in that category until you either upgrade your subscription or deactivate existing products.
Q: Do deleted products affect my limits?
A: No, deleted products are permanently removed and do not count toward any limits.
Q: Can a Component product be part of multiple modular configurators?
A: Yes, Component products can be reused across different modular configurator systems.
Q: If I have a hybrid modular configurator, does each component count separately?
A: No, the hybrid modular configurator counts as one Modular product, and its component parts count separately under Components.
