AR-Only Materials

Keep detailed browser materials while showing accurate colours in AR. Learn how to assign an alternative AR material in option sets and override rules.

Why and when to set an alternative AR material

Many advanced 3D material parameters are not supported in AR.

Read more about material parameters not supported by AR in Unsupported AR Parameters.

When you create complex materials like velvet, which uses Anisotropy for example, the result in the browser looks great. In AR, however, the material can appear completely different – most importantly, in a different tone.

By adding an alternative material for AR, the product admin can make a simplified material for AR. You do not have to compromise your browser-rendered model.

How to set the alternative material

You can assign an alternative AR material in two places: the option set and the override material rule.

Option set

When you assign the material to the particular option in the option set, you can now also assign the alternative AR material.

Override material rule

You can also assign the alternative AR material when you override the static material using the rule on the product level.
