# Item Masters

Manage item master records identified by product or item codes. These records hold operational data such as dimensions, weight, delivery time, commerce identifiers and company-specific alias codes.

Use this section to synchronize item reference data from an ERP or catalogue system. Item masters are distinct from configurable Products. Market cost prices can be read with an item master but are maintained through Market Cost Prices.

### What you can do

| Task                          | Reference                                                                                            |
| ----------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Find available item masters | [List Item Masters](https://help.mimeeq.com/developers/item-masters/list-item-masters) |
| Add a new item master         | [Create Item Master](https://help.mimeeq.com/developers/item-masters/create-item-master)             |
| Import or update item masters | [Bulk upsert Item Masters](https://help.mimeeq.com/developers/item-masters/bulk-upsert-item-masters) |
| Read one item master | [Get Item Master](https://help.mimeeq.com/developers/item-masters/get-item-master) |
| Change item master            | [Update Item Master](https://help.mimeeq.com/developers/item-masters/update-item-master)             |

### Before you start

Your API key needs `itemMasters:read` to read these resources. Use `itemMasters:write` for write operations.

### Important behaviour

Item codes are unique without regard to case. Start with List Item Masters to resolve an `itemMasterId`. General updates replace the record fields, including alias codes. Bulk imports accept up to 1000 items and do not accept alias codes; inspect the result for skipped and invalid codes.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.mimeeq.com/api/item-masters.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
